Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today said that the Awami League may participate in elections unless the government or the judiciary issues a ban against the party.
The CEC said this during a meeting with election officials at the Chattogram Circuit House on Monday (December 30) morning.
“The Election Commission runs with complete independence and faces no external pressure. We are committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure a fair and transparent election,” the CEC assured.
When asked if there is any thought of bringing the previous Election Commission under punishment, the CEC said, “It is a matter for the Election Reform Commission. We have not received their recommendation yet. However, our commission is not thinking of such a thing. There is no decision either."
In response to another query, AMM Nasir Uddin said, “We will remove the distrust of voters. For this, we will go door to door. We will complete this work within 6 months. We will include those who have been excluded from the voter list.”
He said, “I want to tell you that this election will not be like the previous ones. We will make every effort for this. We will need everyone’s cooperation for this.”
