The formalities of this year's National Film Awards ceremony began with the handing over of the Lifetime Achievement to legendary actress Anwara Begum. However, the actress' daughter Mukti accepted the award on her behalf, as she could not attend due to health issues.
The National Film Awards were presented to the artists on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at The Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the event virtually from Ganabhaban, as the chief guest. On behalf of the Prime Minister, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud handed over the awards, at the ceremony.
The Prime Minister inquired about Anwara Begum when she did not find her on the stage. She expressed regret when she found out that the actress was unwell.
"Anwara could not come today. I did not know about her health. I am very sorry to hear about her condition. I wish her a speedy recovery," said the Prime Minister. She also assured to stand by the legendary actress for any assistance.
Popular actors Ferdous and Purnima hosted the National Film Awards ceremony, this year. Twenty-nine artists received a total of 30 awards in 27 categories for their contribution to various streams of cinema.
Alongside Anwara Begum, legendary actor Raisul Islam Asad also received the Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2020.
