The Daulatdia-Paturia route, the gateway to 21 districts, is being disrupted every day due to the ferry crisis. It has been causing traffic jams for the last four to five days across a few kilometers of the highway. Passengers and drivers traveling on this route are suffering due to traffic jams. Earlier, the Daulatdia-Paturia water route was used by 16 ferries. At present 11 to 12 ferries are crossing there. This crisis has occurred due to mechanical faults of the ferry and the shifting of the ferry to the new route.

As many as 700-800 freight trucks and passenger buses have been stuck in traffic between Daulatdia-Paturia Ferry Ghat and Goalandamor area on Friday morning. The drivers and passengers have fallen into extreme suffering and misery.

Two ferries on the Daulatdia-Paturia route have been shifted there and four ferries have been shut down due to mechanical faults as a new ferry route was launched on the Aricha-Kazirhat route last week. Due to the ferry crisis on this route, the number of trips of vehicles has decreased. Not only the ferry crisis but also the wharf crisis. At present only 3 out of 6 ferry ghats in Daulatdia are operational.

In the last two years, the BIWTA authorities could not operate even today due to the breakdown of 3 ferry wharves including 1, 2, and 6. The crossing of vehicles is being severely hampered due to the ferry wharf and ferry crisis. The drivers of raw and goods vehicles have been facing the most problems since they were stuck on the highway for several days. At present, there are 5 Roro and 6 utility ferries plying on this route. Earlier, 16 ferries used to cross this route but now there are 11 to 12 ferries plying there.

Passengers and drivers said that in the last 3 to 4 days, the ferry trucks have been stuck in traffic jams on the highways and have been suffering from various problems and sufferings. Their problems including the delivery of goods, food, overnight stay, bathroom have exceeded the level of misery. He requested the authorities to increase the number of ferries and reduce traffic congestion to get rid of this misery.

Daulatdia BIWTC Assistant Wharf Manager Md. Khorshed Alam said 3 to 4 ferries on the Daulatdia-Paturia waterway are being repaired due to mechanical faults. On the other hand, two ferries of Daulatdia Paturia route have been shifted to Aricha Kazir Hat route as ferry service has started. That is why there is a ferry crisis in Daulatdia. And due to this, an artificial traffic jam has occurred. However, after the repair of the ferry, there will be no traffic jam, the official said. At present, instead of 16 ferries, 12 ferries are plying on this route.
