There is no police in Jatrabari police station. Students are taking various complaints of victims. A large number of students were killed and injured in the indiscriminate firing by the Jatrabari Thana police during the anti-discrimination student movement. An angry mob set fire to the Jatrabari police station on August 5. Earlier, the army personnel evacuated the policemen who were besieged in the police station to safety. 9/10 policemen were killed in mob thrashing and burning. Since then no police has joined the police station.
Even after the formation of the interim government, no policeman joined the police station. As a result of which people take various complaints to the police station, students are taking their complaints. On Saturday, I went to Jatrabari police station and saw such a scene.
In front of Jatrabari police station, several students are seen taking complaints from people in the tin shed. At that time, the names of the complainant and the person against whom the complaint is made are seen written in some of their registered accounts.
Assistant student coordinator Al Amin spoke to several students at 3 pm. At that time, they told Yugantar that no police had joined the police station. However, two policemen came in the morning and four in the afternoon. They signed their names in the register of students and left.
The students also said that since there is no police in the police station, we are taking the complaints of the victims. In case of minor complaints, we students form a team and take immediate action after investigation. And if there is a complex complaint, we send it to the army. Charges include land grabbing, extortion, robbery, vandalism and shoplifting.
Around 100 complaints were filed by people on Friday and more than 50 till 3pm on Saturday.
