The families of those martyred and injured in the July uprising have blocked Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection to demand the speedy trial of their killers and state recognition for those injured.
They took up positions at the thoroughfare around 11am on Thursday, blocking traffic.
The protesters dubbed ousted premier Sheikh Hasina and the leaders of her Awami League government “killers” and demanded their immediate arrest and trial.
The families held photos of the dead and injured and carried placards and banners.
Selina Begum, whose teenage son Aminul Islam Amin was killed during the quota reform movement protests in Jatrabari on Jul 21, said: “We are not getting justice. The government is not active on this matter. Even though six months have passed, no one has made inquiries. We want recognition and justice for the martyrs.”
