Bangladesh’s first transgender news anchor Tasnuva Annan has achieved another unique feat. She was elected as a board member of ILGA World at a conference in May in California, USA.
Ilga World is a global federation with more than 1,700 organizations from more than 160 countries and territories working together for the human rights of sexual and gender minorities.
Organizations around the world have backed Tasnuva Annan’s candidacy in the Ilga World Board election. Her two closest rivals were two human rights activists from Argentina and the United Kingdom. This executive board is the primary governing body of the Ilga World. The elections are usually held during the World Conference.

Besides, Tasnuva has worked with numerous human rights and development organizations for over 10 years. Advocacy is currently a key part of her work to advance the human rights of sexual and gender minorities. Besides her founding position as a platform for gender minorities, she has other honorary positions in various non-profit organizations.
Tasnuva wants to promote the government’s initiative for the implementation of transgender rights in different countries, especially in Bangladesh, through this new position in Ilga World. In this way, other countries will also participate in this development process.
Expressing optimism, Tasnuva Annan said she was willing to work actively with lawmakers to “repeal discriminatory laws” against the human rights of gender and sexual minorities and to amend such laws in various countries.
