Awami League leaders are being arrested one after another in connection with the murder of parliament member Anwarul Azim Anna. Jhenaidah District Awami League General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu's name has come up among those involved in Anna's murder. He was arrested by the police.
A team of intelligence department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him from Dhanmondi area of the capital on Tuesday (June 11) around 4 pm.
Earlier on June 6 Jhenaidah District Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu alias Gas Babu was arrested by District Detective Police (DB).
A source of Dhaka Metropolitan Police claimed that the mastermind of Anna's murder, Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, was in contact with District Awami League General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu.
Meanwhile, Awami League leader Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu alias Gas Babu, a DB source said, the murderer took a picture of MP Anar's body after murdering him in his flat in Kolkata. That picture was sent by Kazi Kamal Ahmed alias Gas Babur on WhatsApp by accused Shimul Bhuiyan alias Shihab alias Fazal Mohammad Bhuiyan alias Amanullah Saeed in the murder case. Gas Babu thanked Shimul Bhuiyan after receiving the picture. Basically, this leader of the local Awami League worked for Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, the mastermind of the murder.
The investigating officers also said that not only Gas Babu, but many others of Awami League joined Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen in the plan to kill MP Anar. Several leaders worked as consultants. Although not directly involved in the killing or planning, many gave fuel from behind. Many people cheered after the murder. DB has managed to get a lot of sensational information related to the newly recovered mobiles from Savar's house in Shimul Bhuiyan.
District Awami League president Safiqul Islam Apu said about the matter, "I am hearing rumors of the arrest of that leader." We want exemplary punishment for whoever is involved in the killing of our popular MP Anna.
The police say that the leaders who are directly and indirectly involved before and after the murder will be brought under the law. And a responsible source related to the investigation claims that these Awami League leaders who are on the suspect list will be caught one by one in the detectives' net once the government gets the green signal.
On May 12, MP Anwarul Azim Annar went to West Bengal, India. He met his family friend Gopal Biswas in Kolkata around 7pm that day. The next day, May 13, Annar left Gopal's house at 1:41 PM saying that he had to see a doctor. He also said that he will return in the evening. Later he boarded a taxi from in front of Calcutta Public School near Bidhan Park. After leaving in the evening, Anar's mobile number received a message from his friend Gopal saying that he was going to Delhi and would call him when he reached there.
Later on May 15, in a WhatsApp message, the MP informed Anna's friend Gopal that she had reached Delhi and was with VIPs. No need to call him. He also sent the same message to his personal assistant in Bangladesh, Rauf.
On May 17, Anar's family, unable to contact him, called Gopal. At that time they told Gopal that they could not contact him. On that day, the family filed a complaint with the police station in Dhaka. Since then MP Anar has not been found.
Indian authorities tracked MP Anar's mobile location on May 20. They came to know that after leaving a friend's house in Kolkata, the location of his mobile was once found in Newmarket area there. Then on May 17, his phone was working for a while in Bihar. Later on Wednesday (May 22), India's NDTV reported that MP Anar was murdered in a flat in Sanjeeva Gardens, New Town, Kolkata.
