Kamal Parvez, Chittagong:
The present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed an Assam Accord named 'Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord' on December 2, 1997 to end the bloody insurgency of two decades and establish peace in the Chittagong Hill Tracts through bilateral talks. As a result of that agreement, the Bengalis living in the hill valley have been deprived of their constitutional rights as well as their just human rights. In the same way, tribal terrorists are being tortured extremely. Some unregistered organizations of the Chittagong Hill Tracts including JSS, UPDF, UPDF (Reform), Mogparty (MLP) and KNF are constantly torturing the innocent Bengalis.
The Bengalis are being subjected to all the barbaric incidents including abduction, murder, torture, abduction, rape, extortion, looting, burning of houses. In these barbarities and atrocities, the Bengalis are losing their land, and many are losing their lives.
These atrocities have been going on continuously since the agreement in 1997. The central committee of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Citizens' Council (PCNP) organized a press conference at S Rahman Hall of Chittagong Press Club at 10:30 am on Saturday.
PCNP Chairman Kazi Mujibur Rahman read out the written statement at the press conference. He also said that the tribal people are getting state facilities, on the other hand, the Bengali families are not getting it. Therefore, all the provisions of the Accord should be repealed and the CHT Accord has been signed with a certain separatist tribal political organization of the CHT. So that only the interests of that particular population have been protected. But another large Bengali population living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts has been completely ignored. Not only that, the people of the plain districts of Bangladesh have also been ignored in this CHT Accord by creating obstacles in buying and selling land and settling. Therefore, it can be said without hesitation that a large Bengali group of the state has been discriminated against in order to give benefits to a particular tribal group. Which is contrary to Article 27 of the Constitution of Bangladesh. (Article 27 of the Constitution: All citizens are equal before the law and are entitled to equal protection of the law). He was also present at the press conference.
PCNP Secretary General Md. Alamgir Kabir, Central Senior Vice President Principal Abu Taher, Central Assistant General Secretary Md. Abdul Majid, Central Assistant General Secretary Md. Ruhul Amin, Central Office Secretary Md. Shahjalal, Chittagong Metropolitan President Professor Mujahidul Islam Baten, Chittagong Metropolitan General Secretary Principal MA Amin, Central President of Chhatra Parishad Shahadat Hossain Kayes were present.
