The price of green pepper is increasing in Dhaka market due to various reasons. Small varieties of local green chillies are being sold at Tk 400 per kg. But hybrid pepper is being sold at 320 taka.

Among other vegetables, kankarol is being sold at Tk 80 per kg, round brinjal at Tk 80 per kg, long eggplant at Tk 60 per kg, papaya at Tk 60 per kg, jali at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per piece, sweet pumpkin at Tk 40 per kg, lathi at Tk 60 per kg. Rs., Shrimp Rs.60 per kg, Dhundal Rs.60 per kg, Corolla Rs.80 per kg, Patal Rs.50 to Rs.60 per kg, Carrot Rs.80 per kg, Kachur Mukhi Rs.100 per kg, Gourd Rs.50 to Rs.70 per piece, Lemon 60 rupees per hali and 50 rupees per kg of rice.

Sohan Ahmed, a private employee, returned to Dhaka after the Eid holiday and came to the capital's Malibag raw market for the first time today. He was surprised to buy green chillies at the end of the market. Because in the market, the price of raw chillies is 400 rupees per kg, and the price of hybrid chillies is 320 rupees.

In this regard, Sohan Ahmed said, I was surprised to hear the price of chili. I came to the market for the first time after Eid, I had no idea that the price of green chillies has increased so much. All of a sudden, the sellers have increased the price. We the buyers are always hostage to the sellers, unscrupulous business syndicates. They are raising prices whenever they want. Why do we buy the country's raw pepper at such a price? It is a wonderful thing. A kg of raw chilli will cost 400 taka in two days, this is not acceptable. All of a sudden, the price is so high, yet I was forced to buy a pod of green chillies for 100 rupees.

When asked why the price of raw chili suddenly increased, Shamsur Rahman, the seller of Mohakhali raw market, said that the price of raw chili in the wholesale market is much higher than before. The supply in the market is low, we have to buy pepper at a higher price in the wholesale market. That is why the impact has come to the retail market. In the next few days, the price of raw chillies will remain high due to low supply in the market. Again, when we can buy raw chili from the wholesale market at a relatively low price, then we can sell raw chili to the buyers at a low price.

Explaining the reason for the increase in the price of green chillies, Shariful Islam, a vegetable seller at Lekpar Bazar near Gulshan, said that a few days ago, the wholesale price of green chillies fell to Tk 800 per pall (5 kg) in Caravanbazar. Now the price of that pepper is 1200 to 1400 taka. And the price of desi pepper is falling between 1500 to 1600 taka. That's why raw chillies are selling between 320 to 400 rupees in the retail market.

He also said that the supply of raw chilli in the market is very less. The main reason for this is that the season of green chillies is over. The chillies that are coming in the market now are the last time of the field. As a result, the supply in the market is much less than the demand. All in all, the price of raw chili is increasing in the market. The price of chillies has increased since Eid. This price will be increased until the new green pepper rises.

Alamgir Hossain, a businessman of caravan market, said that since the time of Eid till now, there is traffic jam on the road, the fare for transporting it by truck is very high, due to which the raw chili is coming to Dhaka relatively less. In addition, the end of the season, the very last time in the field of pepper is going on. Many fields of pepper have been exhausted, newly planted plants have not yet started bearing pepper. Due to these reasons, the supply of raw chillies in the wholesale market has reduced a lot. Also, when it was time to plant the new pepper, it rained a lot. Due to which the farmer could not plant green chillies at the right time. At that time, if the green pepper plants could have been planted, then maybe the fresh pepper from the field would have reached the market by now. Now it will take some more time for the new pepper to come in the market. As long as new chillies are not available, the price of raw chillies will remain high due to low supply.
