On September 16, the government fixed the prices of eggs and chicken at all stages. Then on October 15, the price of eggs and chicken was fixed again in the second round. But still eggs and chickens are being sold at higher prices in the market.

On Friday (October 18), various markets of the capital were visited. A dozen eggs were being sold at Tk 165-175 depending on the market. A dozen of duck eggs is 230 taka and a dozen of domestic chicken eggs is 90 taka. Meanwhile, Supersop and various online grocery shops are selling eggs at Tk 160-170. However, on October 15, the price of eggs was fixed at 11 taka 87 paise at the retail level. According to that, the cost to buy each dozen was supposed to be 142 taka 44 paisa.

On the other hand, broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 210 per kg and golden chicken is being sold at Tk 320 per kg. Besides, layer chicken is being sold at Tk 330 per kg, cock chicken at Tk 320 to Tk 340. Domestic chicken is being sold at an increased price of Tk 650 to Tk 700 per kg. However, according to the price fixed at the retail level on September 15, golden chickens were to be sold at 269 taka 64 paisa per kg and broiler chicken at 179 taka 59 paisa per kg.

Meanwhile, beef is being sold at an increased price of Tk 750 to Tk 780 per kg in the market, goat meat at Tk 1100 per kg.

Expressing his anger about eggs, a buyer named Shamchul told Bangladesh Pratidin that he bought eggs for Tk 180 a dozen a few days ago. I bought it today for 170 taka. But the government has fixed 142 Tk. What's the point of fixing the price if you can't control the market.

Shafiqul, a chicken seller in Rampura area of the capital, said that a large number of chicken farms were damaged due to floods in different parts of the country a few days ago. Due to that, the supply in the market is less than the demand, resulting in higher prices.
