Common lifestyle mistakes that are ruining your skin

You might not realise but some of your habits might actually be having an adverse impact on your skin. Check out this list to know what you should stop doing today!

Skincare is the need of the hour if you wish to have soft, glowing, and refreshed skin even as you age. However, while you must be following some of the to-dos of taking care of your skin, you might not be realising that there are certain lifestyle mistakes that you are inadvertently making that are in turn harming your skin. 

Skincare is not limited to what you apply to your skin. It also includes what you eat, drink, your sleep pattern, and the air or water quality, among other factors. 

Here are some lifestyle mistakes that might actually be harming your skin without you knowing it: 

Unhealthy eating and drinking habits: Your skin is often the first organ to show the signs of your poor diet. Drinking less water will lead to dry, brittle skin. Consumption of unbalanced amounts of sugar and salt can cause severe skin issues such as water retention, skin inflammation, and more. Refined carbs present in various kind of bread, pastas, chips and other processed foods is also dangerous for your skin. Alcohol and coffee may give you a new high, but your skin takes a serious hit to experience a new low.

Skipping CTM routine: Cleansing, Toning and Moisturising are the three core steps to best skin health. Absenteeism of CTM and use of premium skincare products - face washes, serums, tonics, and mist only add layers to already clogged skin. As a result, skin feels oily, dull, uneven with a bumpy skin texture. Therefore, it is essential to embrace the CTM routine every day as it cleanses, tones and nourishes the skin. In addition, it forms the requisite base for the application of other topical products. 

Bad Makeup Habits: Mistakes such as sleeping with makeup on, unknowingly using expired or inferior makeup products, using dirty makeup brushes, etc, are the biggest skincare sins that can ruin the skin completely. Furthermore, dirty brushes breed bacteria that seep into the skin and cause breakouts, acne, and pimples. You must be aware of what you are applying on your skin and use the right, thoroughly washed tools (brushes, etc.) to apply them.

Chemical laden products: Chemical laden products may give you instant skin results that you desire, but those are just short-lived happiness. The underlying damage they cause is sometimes irreversible. Some common skin issues caused by chemicals are acne, skin blackening, patchy complexion, and more. To deal with such problems, we further settle to use more chemicals, but that is like throwing oneself in a vicious circle of bad skincare routine. 

Inadequate Sleep: A bad sleeping pattern is a big no-no for the overall health of a person. Skin is the most sensitive part of your body and it tends to show the ill effects of inadequate sleep pretty early. Puffy eyes, dry and irritated appurtenance, paleness and listlessness, become apparent on your face. You must also try to use silk pillow covers for the best results, along with a good amount of sleep.

Screen Time: Well, we all know screen time damages our eyes, but we hardly talk about the damage it causes to our skin! Blue light or high-energy visible light that emits from the screen can alter the skin and deteriorate it over time.
