BCS (Customs and Excise) cadre officer Suresh Chandra Biswas has been given additional charge in place of Matiur Rahman, who was recently removed as the president of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal.
This information was revealed in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Mokima Begum on Monday (June 24).
According to the notification, Suresh Chandra Biswas, Member (Technical) of Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal has been given the additional responsibility of President of the Tribunal. This order has been issued with the approval of the appropriate authorities and will be effective immediately.
On the other hand, a three-member team has been formed under the leadership of ACC Deputy Director Anwar Hossain. The party has launched an inquiry against Matiur Rahman's corruption and illegal wealth acquisition. It is said that after the complaint against him was submitted to the ACC on June 4, the commission decided to investigate.
NBR member and President of Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal Matiur Rahman has been accused of corruption 4 times in the last two eras. ACC investigated these complaints separately. Each time he was exempted from ACC.
However, ACC officials said that those complaints were related to various institutional irregularities and corruption. In the latest fifth phase, allegations of acquiring huge amount of assets beyond known income through bribery and corruption were filed against him during his 31 years of service. ACC started a new investigation against him regarding this complaint.
