Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented that financial stability is coming to the country through tea and emphasized on increasing its production.
She said, where earlier we had little production of tea, now both production and consumption of tea have increased. Actions should be taken on how to increase it further.
The Prime Minister said these things at the National Tea Day program organized at Osmani Smriti Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (June 4) morning.
At this time, she highlighted the various initiatives of the government and said that measures are being taken to expand the potential of tea in the northern region. Apart from this, the tea board is providing technical assistance to small farmers, incentives, government support from all sides. Apart from Panchagarh, a permanent office of Tea Board has also been constructed at Lalmonirhat.
Sheikh Hasina said, tea is also being produced in Panchagarh courtyards, they also grow vegetables and plant tea trees. Tea is our cash crop. Which is helping to bring financial prosperity to the people of the country. The demand for tea is increasing.
The Prime Minister said that tea is very dear to common people. People's purchasing of tea has increased, electricity has lightened villages, all tea shops are thronged in the evening. The demand for our own tea has increased. What we produce is not much for export. People of Bangladesh like to drink a lot of tea.
She said, when we formed the government in 1996, there was no electricity. At that time, I waived tax on generators so that production would not be disrupted, not only tea gardens, but also our industrial factories would run well.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also promised to change the fortunes of tea workers at the event. She said, special attention should be paid to the research of tea industry. The Prime Minister's Office has a separate fund from which help will be provided for tea workers.
Under the chairmanship of State Minister of Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu, President of Parliamentary Committee on Ministry of Commerce Tipu Munshi, Chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board Major General Md. Ashraful Islam and others also gave their speech in this program.
