The five trawlers owned by the residents of Shahpari Island in Teknaf, border upazila of Cox's Bazar, were caught by the Myanmar Navy while fishing in the Bay of Bengal near St. Martin yesterday, Wednesday (October 9). At that time they fired at the Bangladeshi trawler.

Injured fisherman Mohammad Rafiq said that four days ago, Oli Ahmed went fishing in the sea with a trawler and 10 fishermen. On their way back on Thursday, a Myanmar Navy ship stationed in the Myanmar part of the sea signaled them to go towards them. As it is Myanmar's territorial waters, they continue to move towards St. Martin's Island. At this time, they fired one after another. Two people were shot in this incident. Another died of gunshot wounds. Others are intact.

In this regard, BGB Teknafstha 2 battalion commander Lt. Col. Mohiuddin Ahmed said, we have received reports that one person was killed and two others were injured in the firing of the navy on the border of Myanmar in the Bay of Bengal near St. Martin. Detailed inquiries are being made in this incident.

Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Adnan Chowdhury also confirmed the matter. He said that one Bangladeshi fisherman was killed and two others were shot by the Myanmar Navy near Saint Martin. The captured fishermen were released by the Myanmar Navy. Going to the coast and rescuing them.

SI Nazmul Haque, in-charge of Shahpari Island Police Outpost, said that a trawler with 11 fishermen, including the dead and shot boys, returned to Shahpari Island Jetty Ghat around 2 pm. The body of the jailer has been informed to the Naval Police for further legal action.
