The government has taken initiative to expand vocational education to contribute to the national economy for the Qawmi students. As part of this gambit, the government wants to expand vocational, general education, and higher education opportunities for about 1.7 million Qawmi Madrasa students. The students will get the latitude to study according to the core curriculum and technical education program owing to this initiative.
The govt act was given assent by many madrasa authorities. However, the Islamic scholars have called for a decision after discussion.
When asked, Maulana Farid Uddin Masood, Khatib of Sholakia Eidgah and a member of Al Hayatul Uliya Lil Jamiatil Qaumiyah, said, "This initiative of the government is good." However, steps need to be taken in consultation with Qaomi scholars. Decisions must be made through discussion, not by force. The government's intentions need to be shown to be good. '
Upon asking Dipu Moni said, ‘We want to forge ahead with everyone. We do not want to leave behind 17lakhs children and teenagers. Not everyone will be employed if they are in their specific profession. So we want to move forward with them. They did not want to join us. Now there are signs that a part of them is willing to join. They will come inshallah. ’
The education minister also added, "They are also our children. Most of the poor parents have enrolled their children in Qawmi Madrasa free of cost so that they can earn after getting an education. The parents don't want their children to lead jobless life. This is why we have to clinch their work."
"We will not be able to abolish madrasas in such a curriculum education. On the other hand, I will not be able to abolish so many different curriculum schools as well. All I can do is form a core curriculum. Besides, for admission at the university level, an exam on the core subject will be sufficient for the admission test. That way everyone will get the opportunity of higher education."
When asked, Maulana Farid Uddin Masoud said, "If the government wants to give opportunities to the students, then the decision has to be taken after discussing with the Islamic scholars. If necessary, seminars can be held." The proposal from the scholars to give vocational and higher education opportunities along with Qawmi Madrasa curriculum would really be good.'
According to Qawmi Madrasa and related sources, the number of different types of Madrasas in the country including Maktab, Forkania, and Korania is 14,931. At present, the number of students in these madrasas is about 17 lakh. However, the number of educational institutions in the neighborhood is increasing day by day.
