Mashrafe bin Murtaza, the most successful captain of the Bangladesh cricket team, also received recognition for his leadership off the field. The World Economic Forum 2021 has selected 112 'Young Global Leaders' from around the world for their contributions in various fields. Mashrafe is one of the 10 selected from South Asia. Narail-2 MP Mashrafe received this recognition for his role in development activities in his area.

Each year, the World Economic Forum honors young personalities who have made significant contributions to politics, trade, education, the media and the arts. The age must be under 38 to be on this list. The former ODI captain of Bangladesh got this recognition at the age of 37.

However, Mashrafe was not the first to get this recognition in Bangladesh. In 2016, Junaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, was elected as the Young Global Leader from South Asia.

Mashrafe is the head of a voluntary organization called the Narail Express Foundation. This organization has a big contribution behind his recognition. Young Global Leaders wrote about the Narail Express Foundation, "Mashrafe bin Murtaza, a Bangladeshi cricketer and former captain of the Bangladesh ODI team. He was also the captain of the T20 team.
