Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard West Zone raided and seized illegal foreign clothes worth Tk 16 crore 61 lakh. On March 12, from 3pm to 10pm, BCG Base Mongla under Coast Guard West Zone conducted a special operation in the area adjacent to Charaputia canal in Harbaria and seized illegal foreign clothes worth about Tk 16 crore 61 lakh while entering Bangladesh illegally through tax evasion.
The operation was carried out on the basis of secret information. During the operation, a trawler was signaled to stop suspiciously in the Charaputia canal area. The trawler was later searched and 14,377 pieces of foreign sari, 1,303 pieces of lehenga, and 396 pieces of three-piece and 465 pairs of shoes were seized. The estimated value of the confiscated illegal foreign cloth is about Tk. 18, 60, 84,250.
The seized goods and trawler were later handed over to Mongla police station for legal action. Coast Guard media officer Lt. Commander BN Amirul Haque confirmed.
