The fire that broke out in the LPG lighterage ship Sufia at Kutubdia in Cox's Bazar was not brought under control even after 13 hours.

The Coast Guard and Navy are trying to control the fire as of writing this report at 2:30 pm on Sunday (October 13).

Earlier, on Saturday (October 12) around 1:15 am, the ship caught fire in the Koyarbil area west of Qutubdia coast. At that time, 31 sailors on board jumped into the water to save their lives. All of them were discharged after first treatment.

Coast Guard East Zone Media Officer Lt. Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi said that the fire on Qutubdia's LPG vessel has not yet been brought under control. Efforts are underway to bring it under control.

Another official, Lt. Saqib Mehbub, said that several ships of the Navy have joined the rescue operation. Two Coast Guard and five Navy ships are working to control the fire and rescue the crew. However, as a result of efforts for a long time, it was possible to reduce the severity of the fire, but it was not possible to control it completely. The fire is still burning inside the ship.
