The body of a Malaysian crewman who reportedly fell into the sea while installing a pilot ladder on a vessel off Chittagong, Bangladesh on Wednesday (May 8) has been recovered.
National Union of Seafarers of Peninsular Malaysia executive secretary Ikmal Azam Thanaraj Abdullah confirmed the discovery of the 31-year-old victim when contacted on Monday (May 13).
However, he said, details of the incident would only be shared after the union met with the victim’s family later in the day.
"The victim's body is still in Bangladesh for a post-mortem. I will meet the victim's family today and then I will disclose the details of the incident," he said.
Previously, a message on X by user @DanialDDD stated that his colleague was believed to have fallen from a ship in the waters of Bangladesh on Wednesday.
He asked the public to pray for the search and rescue operation to go smoothly, and shared a video of sea conditions at the location.
