In response to the ongoing floods affecting various regions of the country, teachers, students, and officials from the Islamic University (IU) have joined the nationwide relief effort. Multiple teams from the university have already sent essential relief materials to flood-affected areas. Over 50 social, cultural, religious organizations, departments, and faculty associations at IU have united in this humanitarian endeavor.
Reports indicate that, during this critical time, the IU Teachers and Officers Association is donating one day's salary to the chief advisor's Relief Fund. Additionally, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement is actively collecting relief materials on and off-campus, reaching out to various district and upazila centers. Other social and cultural organizations, including the Tarunno (Youth) group and almost every district welfare association within the university, are also pooling resources from their alumni and current students to aid in the relief efforts.
On-site observations reveal that a group of students has been performing songs in different district and upazila towns to collect donations from passersby. Moreover, students have been traveling to nearby districts such as Chuadanga, Meherpur, Jessore, Magura, and Pabna at their own expense to gather donations throughout the day, returning to campus at night to consolidate and send the first batch of relief items. A portion of the combined relief, along with clothes and food items collected from campus dormitories and surrounding areas, has already been dispatched, with more expected to follow soon.
Students from various departments have reported that they are collecting funds from alumni and current students through online mobile banking services (bKash/Nagad/Rocket/Upay). The funds will be used to assist in the rehabilitation efforts following the flood crisis.
When asked about the initiative, Professor Dr. Md. Mamunur Rahman, General Secretary of the IU Teachers Association, stated, "We, the Teachers Association, have decided to donate one day's salary from all faculty members to the flood victims. We hope to transfer our contribution to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund on the first working day when banks reopen."
