Sajib Wazed Joy, the son of the fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, commented that real reforms and elections are not possible in Bangladesh without the Awami League.

He made this comment in an interview given to Reuters on Wednesday (September 25).

Joy said, I am happy with the deadline given by the army chief for election within one and a half years. Although Awami League expected earlier elections. But we've seen dramas like this before, where an unconstitutional, unelected government promises reforms and then things get worse.

Stating that it is impossible to have acceptable reforms or elections without the Awami League, he said that it depends on the interim government whether they will negotiate with the Awami League or organize the elections in their own way.

Regarding Sheikh Hasina's return to the country, Joy said, it is her (Sheikh Hasina's) decision. Right now I want to keep my party leaders and workers safe.

It is to be noted that Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on August 5 in the face of the student movement. Then Nobel laureate Dr. An interim government was formed under the leadership of Yunus. Later they took up the program of reforming the state. However, no specific time frame has been given by the government regarding the election.

The advisors of the government say that to heal the wounds of Awami League's 'fascist' rule and take the country on the right path, reforms are necessary first, then elections. In the meantime, the army chief has promised to support the Yunus government so that the interim government can successfully complete the reform work on September 24.

Walker-uz-Zaman also said that elections can be held in Bangladesh within one to one and a half years through reforms.
