Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Friday said if BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is slowly poisoned, the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir would be accused of giving the order to do so.

Speaking during a protest rally organised by Jubo Dal, in front of Jatiya Press Club, on Thursday, Mirza Fakhrul posed a question, asking if party chairperson Khaleda Zia was "slow poisoned" after being taken to hospital from the old central jail in Dhaka.

In reply to Mirza Fakhrul's comment, Quader said Khaleda's family members give her food, and BNP men always stay beside her. If she is slowly poisoned, those who stay beside her could do so.

He said this while giving the welcome address before the AL's secretariat meeting at its central Bangabandhu Avenue office here. The minister said Khaleda Zia is getting the benefits of staying at home even after being a convict because of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s generosity.

“Mirza Fakhrul commented that Begum Khaleda Zia is being slowly poisoned. I want to ask him who is staying beside Khaleda. BNP men always roam beside her. Neither Awami League nor the government stays beside her. She is receiving treatment from those physicians who were chosen by herself. If she is slow poisoned, those who stay beside her could do so,” he said.

Pointing to Fakhrul, the AL general secretary said why they are accusing AL. He said it should be examined whether BNP is slow poisoning Khaleda for making her minus and shifting the liability to AL. AL Secretariat members Mahbubul Alam Hanif, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, Afjal Hossain, Asim Kumar Ukil, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Faridunnahar Laily, Barrister Biplab Barua, Delwar Hossain, Aminul Islam, and Sayem Khan, among others, joined the meeting.
