The High Court has acquitted six accused, including former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, in the 10-truck arms smuggling case in Chattogram.
On Wednesday (December 18), the High Court bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Nasreen Akter delivered this verdict.
In the ruling, Babar was acquitted while ULFA's military commander Paresh Barua's death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.
It is to be noted that, on January 30, 2014, a Chattogram court sentenced 14 people to death, including Babar, Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami, and former NSI chief retired Maj Gen Rezzakul Haider, for involvement in the country's biggest-ever arms smuggling case.
