Sujan Hajong, a well known lyricist of the country, is now the director of the Birishiri Minority Cultural Academy. The government has appointed him for two years. This information is known in a circular signed by Oliur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, on 23 February (Tuesday). Sujan Hajong is a poet, lyricist, columnist, researcher, translator and young politician. In addition to writing poetry and songs, he is researching the language, literature and culture of small ethnic groups.

Sujan Hajong said in his response, “Greater Mymensingh is inhabited by Hajong, Garo, Koch, Banay, Hadi, Dalu and Barman ethnic groups. They have their own colorful culture and traditions. I am proud to have the opportunity to work for the practice and development of the language, literature and culture of these backward communities. This is my root. I grew up here. I have seen the people's sense of life, way of life and life struggle very closely. So I am committed to working for the cultural development of these marginalized people from the place of social responsibility. The present government is constantly working for the socio-economic and cultural development of the indigenous people. I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for appointing me as the Director of Birishiri Cultural Academy. ”

“Rafiq Azad, a poet of love and rebellion, was once the director of the Birishiri Cultural Academy,’ Sujan Hajong added, “There are many memories of the beloved poet Rafiq Azad in this Birishiri. He has blended in with the simple ethnic lifestyle here. He has written countless poems about the indigenous people. He is not here today. I will look for the memories he left here in the crowd of thousands of work. This will be the respect of his younger poet towards an older poet.”

It is to be mentioned that eight artists from six SAARC countries have sung songs written by Sujan Hajong about Bangabandhu. Besides, many popular musicians including Subir Nandi, Nachiketa, Shubhamita, Fahmida Nabi, Samina Chowdhury, Priyanka Gop, Avanti Sinthi, Luipa, Kishore, Sabbir, Muhin, Liza, Pulak, Ronti Das and Sushmita Saha have sung songs written by Sujan Hajong.

Sujan Hajong is the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Chapter of the Mother Language Lovers of the World Society, the Ekushey Medal-winning organization for mother tongue. He has recently been nominated as a member of the sub-committee on forest and environment of the Bangladesh Awami League.
