Renowned folk musician Fakir Alamgir is infected with Coronavirus. He was admitted to United Hospital in the capital on Thursday night.
He is currently in the ICU in the Covid unit of the hospital. His wife Suraiya Alamgir confirmed the matter today.
Fakir Alamgir is a renowned musician of Bangladesh. He has made extensive contributions to folk music and country pop music. He is the founder of Rishi Shilpi Group.
He graduated from Jagannath College and later passed MA in Journalism from Dhaka University. He entered student politics in 1986 as a member of the Menon Group of Students Union.
Following this, he entered the music industry in the sixties as a member of Kranti Shilpi Gosthi and Gana Shilpi Gosthi. He played a special role in the mass uprising of '69. In the great liberation war of 1971, the artist joined Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra as a vocalist.
His notable songs include ‘O Sakhina Gechos Kina Bhuila Amare’, ‘Nam Tar Chilo John Henry’. He also wrote a book last year called 'Abhaman Banglar Loksangeet'.
