The Palestinian organization Hamas has agreed to the ceasefire resolution passed by the UN Security Council.
IRNA reported this information on Tuesday (June 11) about the Palestinian Sama news agency.
In response to a UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution, senior Hamas official Mahmoud al-Mardawi said their goal is to end Israel's genocidal war in Gaza and establish a ceasefire in the besieged Palestinian territories.
He said, we welcome the resolution of the UN Security Council regarding the ceasefire in Gaza. We are ready to cooperate with the mediator (US) in implementing it.
He added that the mediators must obtain a public commitment or agreement from the occupying Israelis on a cease-fire, so that we can negotiate. Also the United States must guarantee this agreement.
Another senior Hamas official, Sami Abu Zuhri, said they had accepted the ceasefire proposal and were ready for detailed negotiations. But the United States must ensure that Israel complies.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in Tel Aviv that the Gaza plan would be discussed after the end of the Israel-Hamas war. These discussions will continue on Tuesday afternoon and for the next few days. He said this after a discussion with the leaders of Israel.
Earlier, the UN Security Council on Monday passed the Gaza ceasefire resolution offered by US President Joe Biden. However, the details of this proposal are yet to be disclosed.
After the ceasefire resolution was passed at the UN, the Israeli ambassador said his country would not engage in 'pointless and endless' talks, which could benefit Hamas.
Note that on October 7, 2023, 1,200 Israelis were killed in an attack by Hamas in Israel. At this time, armed fighters took more than 250 people hostage to Gaza.
In response, the Israeli military launched a counterattack in Gaza. According to Gaza health authorities, more than 36,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel during the eight-month offensive. Most of them are women and children. Gaza has been reduced to rubble by the attack.
