Hasina invites Modi to visit Bangladesh

Bangladesh, India PMs hope to deepen bilateral ties

Meeting for the first time since the recent general elections in their respective countries, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have voiced their intention to enhance the strong ties between their nations. 

During a meeting at the Rashtrapati Bhavan shortly after Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony on Sunday evening, Sheikh Hasina extended an invitation to her Indian counterpart to visit Bangladesh at his convenience, according to Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, who briefed reporters early Monday.

"The two leaders expressed optimism that the existing bilateral relations will be further strengthened in the future," Mahmud said.

“The bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India have reached a new height under the prudent leadership of Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi.”

He said, “Bangladesh and India have multifaceted relations. Many issues are involved between the two countries. There have been some benefits in the two countries working together.”

The people from the two countries are benefitting in terms of enhanced connectivity between them, said Hasan Mahmud, adding, “Our multi-dimensional relations will expand and deepen further in future.”

Sheikh Hasina arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the new Indian government at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

She is expected to leave the Indian capital for Dhaka this afternoon.
