What makes these mangoes so special?

The summer season is all about the king of fruits, Mango. Who doesn’t like Mango? From Mango shakes to Mango tart, you can find the internet flooded with Mango recipes in the summer season. But this fruit can’t be enjoyed by people diagnosed with diabetes because it’s high in sugar content.

GhulamSarwar, a mango expert at M H Panhwar Farms found a way by which diabetic people could enjoy this appetizing fruit. After years of research, he prepared sugar-free mangoes which have about 4 to 6 percent of sugar.

Types of mangoes

Normally, mango varieties like Chaunsa and Sindhri have 12 to 15 percent of sugar and can’t be consumed by diabetic patients, but his farm has three varieties of mango named Sonaro, Glenn, and Keitt which have 5.6 percent, 6 percent, and 4.7 percent, respectively.

M H Panhwar’s nephew GhulamSarwar made modifications in the techniques used to grow the fruit and conducted several experiments to control the sugar content in the fruit. Mr. Panhwar had been conferred Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan for his research on fruits like mangoes and bananas.

What's more!

After his demise, Ghulam continued his legacy and carried out several experiments on the king of fruits, mango. The experiments also resulted in increasing the shelf life of the mangoes.

For the first time, diet/ sugar-free mangoes will be sold in Pakistani markets. The mangoes are priced at Rs 150/ kilogram.
