Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy lifted the curtain on a three-day dance drama festival at the National Theatre Hall on Wednesday.
The event is featuring 11 dance dramas directed by 11 dance artistes and choreographers, namely Deepa Khandakar, Saju Ahmed, Anik Bose, Warda Rihab, Mahabub Hasan Sohag, Nilanjana Jui, Sahida Rahman Surovi, Lubna Marium, Kabirul Islam Ratan, Nilufar Wahid Papri and Anamul Haque Bacchu.
The festival began with artistes staging Deepa Khandakar-directed dance drama Kabar.
The dance drama is based on Palli Kabi Jasimuddin’s poem with the same title. Kabar revolves around an old man, named Dadu, who gives a monologue to his grandson.
Abdur Rashid Swapan, Ataur Rahaman Mohon and Liloy Paul played the character of Dadu while Farah Sarwar Jhunjhun and Meherin played the character of Dadi.
Besides, Abdus Sattar, Samia Rafique Shammi, Sumon Ahmed, Limon and others portrayed different characters in the dance drama.
Besides, Saju Ahmed-directed Prasanga 47 and Anik Bose-directed Chandalika were staged on the opening day of the festival.
July 24 will be the second day of the festival. Dance artistes will perform four dance dramas, namely Warda Rihab-directed Hajar Bachharer Bangali, Mahabub Hasan Sohag-directed Baram Khana, Nilanjana Jui-directed Rupantarer Gaan and Sahida Rahman Surovi-directed Kunja Sajao Go.
The BSA will bring down the curtain on the three-day dance drama festival on July 25. The concluding day will feature four dance dramas, namely Lubna Marium-directed Mayar Khela, Kabirul Islam Ratan-directed Shyama, Nilufar Wahid Papri-directed Meher Nigar and Anamul Haque Bacchu-directed Rangila Nayer Majhi.
