Filmmaker Kisloo Golam Haider. COURTESY
Kisloo Golam Haider is one of the few talented TVC maker in our country. His thinking is always film-centric. He will be able to say the exact number of TVC he has made. Fiction 'Laboni' was made last Eid. This fiction has brought him into the discussion anew. Talks with him were on various issues related to media. On behalf of Bangladesh News Ziaul Zia spoke to him.
We always compare with India in terms of the quality of our TVC. Why is that and whose are ahead?
Kisloo Golam Haider: In fact, we are a beside country. Then the people of the neighboring province of India speaks Bengali. For a variety of reasons, we consider them our people. That’s why we compare with their work. But, the reality is that they have a lot of cultural differences with us. Culturally they are far ahead of us. So, they are doing better than us in TVC. Because they are culturally advanced, they have been correlated with education for a long time. We are much later.
TVC is now established as an art. Is the technical support satisfactory for good making?
Kisloo Golam Haider: No. In this case, we have a deficit. We don't have much of the technical equipment available as other countries. Much can be said about such equipment. In this case, maybe we have a lack of financial capacity. However, these euphemisms are needed after having a good making sense to do world class work. There is no way to deny it.
TVC is the shortcut to becoming a celebrity? Want to know your opinion.
Kisloo Golam Haider: It has only happened in our country. Here a product promotes an artist or model. Outside the country but the picture is just opposite. There an artist promotes the product. Who get the promotion done when Salman Khan doing TVC? Of course the product, isn’t it? I don't know that in TVC can makes 'celebrity' or noy, but it’s true that it brings a model to the people.
Are TVC maker deprived on budgets?
Kisloo Golam Haider: For a TVC, a product company, an agency and a production house work behind the scenes. There should be government policy in determining how transactions will take place between these three institutions. That policy has not been made even today. In the past, the company paid an agency commission of 15 percent. That has now dropped to 5 percent. The agency is now reducing its TVC budget. As a result, product companies are getting less quality advertising than they are spending. For that reason, we are all loser. In this case, government policy is needed.
Why are you not requesting the government in this regard?
Kisloo Golam Haider: This is not my issue only. This requires a collaborative effort. Nobody thinks that way about it.
Why is it so late to come to fiction?
Kisloo Golam Haider: This is my second fiction. What I did earlier was titled 'Bataser Khacha'. Actor Iresh Zaker's debut through that play. But after doing that fiction, it seemed that I could not do as I thought about fiction. And at that time I was very busy with TVC making. in a word ball not coming to bat. At this time I thought I would do fiction. I did so.
Want to make fiction regularly?
Kisloo Golam Haider: Yes. If the ball come to bat.
Single drama will be extinct?
Kisloo Golam Haider: Is it necessary to have a single drama (specific length)? Now television is not the only medium for showing dramas. So the length of the drama will increase now. And it’s good side is, we could tell our story completely. That story will march to the way as it’s need.
How much freedom of script in the making of web series in our country?
Kisloo Golam Haider: There is something to think about in this sector. In fact, we don’t have the freedom to show all the stories for various reasons. The reason is we did not grow up culturally. It’s efforts are not visible in our education system. However, good production cannot be expected without the freedom to tell stories.
What is the way to bring the middle class back to the theater?
Kisloo Golam Haider: First you have to make a good quality movie. When it comes to good quality movies, the issue of good budget comes up. I have done a study on my own and found, if even 5 percent of the viewers can be returned, then a picture can make a business of 50 crores. For that reason, there are no more obstacles in making good pictures. And if it is a good picture, the viewer will return. Because, the biggest medium of entertainment is cinema. The joy of watching it in theater is different.
When do you want to make a movie?
Kisloo Golam Haider: Everything else I done from the dream or desire to make a movie. But I did not set a specific time for it. I will make it if ball come to bat like fiction.
Thank you so much for givig us time.
Kisloo Golam Haider: Thanks to both of you and Bangladesh News.
