All secondary schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical educational institutions will remain closed on Saturday (May 4) in Dhaka and 24 other districts of the country due to the ongoing heatwave conditions.
The decision was made based on the forecast issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the Ministry of Education said in a press statement on Friday (May 3).
Educational institutions in the districts of Khulna and Rajshahi divisions, Dhaka and Tangail districts under Dhaka division, Chandpur in Chattogram division, and Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, and Dinajpur districts under Rangpur division will remain closed as per the fresh order.
On Thursday morning, the education ministry issued a notice saying all secondary level educational institutions that remained closed for countrywide heatwave conditions would reopen on Saturday.
Schools and colleges were scheduled to reopen on 21 April after the end of Eid holidays but the closure was extended till 27 April due to sweltering heat across the country caused by heatwaves.
Classes resumed on 28 April although there was no remarkable change in the heatwave conditions, worrying the guardians, especially those of primary level students.
The authorities extended the closure of primary and secondary level educational intuitions till 2 May following a High Court order to keep those shut.
Besides, all government primary schools would reopen on Sunday, said Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, senior information officer of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
