The 5th convocation of Green University of Bangladesh was held with a vibrant celebration and enthusiasm. The event took place on Monday, February 17, at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal, lasting throughout the day.

The convocation was presided over by the Chancellor of the university and the representative of the President, Professor Dr. S.M.A. Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The keynote speaker at the event was Dr. Ali Riaz, Distinguished Professor at Illinois State University and Head of the Constitutional Reform Commission of the Interim Government. The event also featured speeches by Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Green University, Professor Dr. Mohammad Sharif Uddin, Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Dr. Khaja Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed, Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

A total of 4,129 graduates were awarded degrees during the convocation. Among them, 5 graduates were awarded the Chancellor's Gold Medal, and 10 graduates received the Vice-Chancellor's Gold Medal.

In his presidential speech, UGC Chairman Dr. S.M.A. Faiz emphasized that, in the current changed circumstances, students have a greater responsibility towards society. Those who have the capacity to bring change can also shape it. He urged everyone to work together to drive society in a positive direction, rebuild decaying structures, and establish a just and balanced society. He also stated that the unutilized potential in post-independence Bangladesh must be developed, and the paths that were once closed must be opened. He encouraged the graduates to lead the country and society forward through technology and humanity.

Keynote speaker Dr. Ali Riaz stated that the convocation marks not only the end of the graduation phase but also the beginning of a new chapter in life—a life of practical experience, new challenges, and establishing one's position. He urged Green University graduates to embrace this challenge.

Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said, “While the future of graduates is filled with endless opportunities, it also holds many challenges. However, we believe that the knowledge, skills, and values gained from Green University will serve as the foundation for your future.” He also mentioned that new programs such as Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering have already been introduced at the university, and there are plans to introduce programs like Pharmacy and Architecture in the future. He expressed his commitment to continuing the progress and ensuring the university's growth.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Sharif Uddin emphasized that the world of the future is dynamic and multidimensional, offering immense opportunities along with challenges. With the rapid progress of cyber technology, the 5G industrial revolution, high-tech communication systems, artificial intelligence, and innovations like ChatGPT, he urged graduates to adapt and move forward. He called on the graduates to transform their confidence into self-empowerment to achieve the impossible and make the country and the world proud.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khaja Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed emphasized the importance of developing skilled human resources and the necessity of higher education for this purpose. He encouraged the graduates to be proud representatives of the country worldwide. He also highlighted various contributions of Green University to higher education.

The convocation ceremony was attended by Vice-Chancellors from various universities, members of the Board of Trustees, Academic Council, and Syndicate members, teachers, students, invited guests, and parents.
