The government is set to place the 53rd national budget of Tk 7, 97,000 crore for the next fiscal year (FY25) at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today (June 6).
Income tax, duty, VAT or supplementary duty may be increased on some products in this budget.
Some products and services, which prices might go up are - cigarettes, water filters, cashews, refrigerators, AC, Ice Cream, Beverages, Bricks, LED Bulbs, Tobacco Products, Crude Oil, Tube Listening Gel, Synthetic Corundum, Aluminum Oxide, Fluorescent Lamp Parts, Glass, Plastics, Medical Instruments, Tools, Capital Parts, Construction Materials, SIM Cards, Auction Houses , security services and lottery tickets etc. product prices.
At the same time, in the future, along with household expenses, travel expenses may also increase.
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali will present the budget for the financial year 2024-25 in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina under the chairmanship of Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the National Parliamen at 3 pm.
Mahmood Ali will place the budget eying a 6.75 percent GDP growth while containing the inflation at 6.50 percent although the general point-to-point inflation is still hovering slightly below the double-digit mark despite various efforts from the government to tame inflation.
