Trio guides Nazmul XI to a nine-wicket victory over Tamim XI

Half centuries from Liton Kumar Das, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz propelled Najmul XI to triumph in the first intra-group practice match by 9 wickets against Tamim XI at the John Davies Oval in Queenstown in New Zealand on Tuesday.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto XI comfortably reached the target in response to Tamim Iqbal XI’s fighting 233.

Chasing the target of 234 runs to win, Najmul XI batted well from the very beginning of the chase. Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 54 and Mohammad Saifuddin’s unbeaten 16 runs sent them to the close door of the victory with 19 balls in hand.

Liton-Mehidy walked back to the dressing room having retired hurt after completing their respective half-centuries. Wicket-keeper batsman Liton smacked 59 runs, while Miraz clobbered 50 runs. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto also retired hurt after scoring 40.

Earlier, Tamim XI could not make a good start after starting batting first on the picturesque Queenstown’s John Davies Oval. However, Mohammad Mithun’s unbeaten 66 runs and a local New Zealand batsman Benazir’s unbeaten 46 helped Tamim XI accumulate a fighting 233 runs at the end of the innings.

Experienced all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad made 35, while Sheikh Mahedi Hasan got out for 38. Soumya Sarkar started well but could not make the innings big as he returned with 28 runs. Naim Sheikh could not shine as well, the left-handed batsman clubbed 12.

Fast bowler Rubel Hossain leaked 42 runs to pick up a four-wicket haul for Nazmul XI, while Mohammad Saifuddin snapped up a scalp.
