Bangladesh globe-trotting premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named in England’s newly-introduced cricket tournament ‘The Hundred’s players’ draft after the mini-auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Bangladesh ODI captain and its batting cog Tamim Iqbal has also be placed in ‘The Hundred’s players’ draft with six other Tigers’ players beside Shakib, who already took a leave from the board to be remained with his expected wife Umme Ahmed Shishir as country’s globe-trotting premier all-rounder is going to be father of his third child after the couple was blessed with two successive daughters- Alaina Hasan Abri and Errum Hasan.

Top-order batsman Imrul Kayes, wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Kumar Das, pace all-rounder Soumya Sarkar, pacer Taskin Ahmed, pacer Abu Haider Rony and all-rounder Sabbir Rahman Rumman are in the eight-man list of the Bangladesh players.

Shakib and Tamim among them are in the credible list of 10 cricketers with the highest price band. Apart from the two Bangladeshis, the other six cricketers are Pakistan’s Babar Azam, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and Kagiso Rabada along with West Indies’ Jason Holder, Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson and Australia’s David Warner.

A total of four, out of 10 players from the highest price band category will get from the auction. The base price of these 10 cricketers has been set at maximum one lakh pounds.

Of them, the base price of 40,000 pounds has been fixed for Liton, Imrul and Sabbir, whereas no base price bracket has been set for the case of Abu Haider, Soumya and Taskin.

The gala players’ draft of the cash-rich tournament will be held virtually on February 23, whilst the tournament is scheduled to take place in July this year.

In addition, more than 200 foreign cricketers have registered for the players’ draft. Quinton de Kock, Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Martin Guptill, Marnus Labuschagne, Kagiso Rabada, Faf du Plessis and Dale Steyn are the notable names of the enlisted cricketers.

Most selections from last year's draft have been retained by the eight teams but there are still seven overseas and 28 domestic positions to be filled.

Although the first edition of the tournament was scheduled to take place last year, due to the Corona pandemic it was delayed. The teams have already submitted their retention lists before the draft. Next, each team will select their cricketers from the draft.

However, the first draft of the tournament was held in October 2019. Despite putting their names for the draft, no one from Bangladesh got teams.

The teams have retained most of the players from the previous draft. However, on the basis of mutual agreement, the remuneration has been reduced by 20 per cent.

Rashid Khan (Trent Rockets), Andre Russell (Southern Brave), Aaron Finch (Northern Superchargers) and Kane Williamson (Birmingham Phoenix) are among the stars who got teams in the previous draft.

A total of 35 players -- 28 domestic (English) and seven overseas -- will be selected in the upcoming draft.
