Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Labor and Employment commented that Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan's political position should be clarified.
He said this in response to a question during a courtesy meeting and check-taking ceremony with Grameenphone officials at the Ministry of Labor at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 29).
The advisor also said that Shakib Al Hasan will be given as much security as he needs as a player.
Discussions are going on about Shakib Al Hasan, he has sought security from BCB, when asked about this, the advisor said, BCB has given a statement in this regard. From the place of the state, the state is obliged to provide security to every citizen and we must do that.
He said, there are two identities of Shakib Al Hasan. We must remember this. One identity as a player, another is a political identity. He has done MP election from Awami League panel. People have mixed reactions to both.
Now as a player, we must give the responsibility of providing as much security as possible to a player. We will give it when we come to the country. Asif Mahmud said, "We have said about the murder case that has been filed in his name, and the Ministry of Law has also said that if there is no connection, it can be dropped initially."
He further said, but if there is anger among the people because of his political identity, then…. I think I have five police constables and a gunman for my security. If I have the anger of 16 crore people, 10 crore people of the country, then what security will these 5-6 people give me? In that case, if the people have any anger, then I have to reduce it with my words.
The adviser said, I think he (Shaqib Al Hasan) needs to clear his place, from the political place. It is necessary to talk about his political position. Already Mashrafe Bin Mortuza has spoken.
He said, if there is a security risk from the people, no one can actually give it to anyone. Sheikh Hasina also could not be given security, she had to flee the country. I think it is necessary to clarify the political issue and identity in that place. But it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of every player and we fulfill that responsibility.
