Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officially finalised the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, the Tests which are a part of the World Test Championship (WTC) inducted by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Shujan confirmed the news at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), considered the country’s ‘Home of Cricket’ in Mirpur on Saturday.
But Nizamuddin informed that the venue for the matches has not been finalised yet, though the two-Test series finalised. It is learnt that all the matches of the tour will be held in the same venue. The respective venue or venues will be announced by the host country for which the Tigers’ Cricket administration is waiting for their decision.
“The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was in touch with us after the postponement of the series following the outset of the slew of round talks between the two sides. As of now, the two matches of the Test series so far have been finalised,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.
“The two Test matches will be played at the same venue. We hope that the Bangladesh team will visit Sri Lanka on April 12-15. Since the host country made the announcement, it would be really good to hear from them.”  Chowdhury told media at the BCB Headquarters in Mirpur in the capital city at a programme on Saturday.
The bilateral series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had already been postponed twice due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic. The series was first suspended in June in the Covid-hit year after which, the second time postponed in October.
But if all goes well, the series that has been postponed is slated to be played in April. After the end of the Test series against the Lankans, Tiger’s will have to prepare for the ODIs at home, because the Lankans are coming to Bangladesh in May to play a three-match ODI series as part of the ICC Men’s World Cup Super League.
In addition, Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to visit the island’s country on April 12-15 to play Test matches.
