Bangladesh team will get the valuable service of high-profile spin bowling consultant Daniel Vettori in the forthcoming New Zealand series, where the visitors are all set to play three ODIs and as many T20Is. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief executive officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury Shujan said Vettori would work with Bangladesh for another 20-22 days even though BCB did not renew his contract with Vettori.

BCB appointed Vettori as the spin bowling consultant for the Bangladesh team in July 2019.  According to the agreement, the veteran New Zealand spinner was to work with the Tigers for 100 days although this high-profile coach has spent more time on vacation instead of working with the team.

Although he could not attend the West Indies series at home due to Corona, however, Tigers are getting him on the New Zealand tour. The chief executive said Vettori's experience is very important in New Zealand soil. He also said that cricketers would also benefit by sharing a dressing room with a legend like him.

“Vettori has been associated with the Bangladesh team for a long time and has been providing services for the bowlers.  But maybe he is having problems in traveling because of the Coronavirus pandemic,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.

“The main thing is that wherever he joins the team, he will have to stay in the quarantine for 14 days after returning to his country.  In that case, this is the main challenge for him to return to the country and quarantine for 14 days. He is joining the Bangladesh team's tour of New Zealand,” Nizamuddin told the media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.

“In the case of a legendary cricketer like him, we see this factor differently. The board thinks that having a legendary cricketer like Vettori with the Bangladesh team or sharing a dressing room adds a different dimension.  A former captain like him, especially in New Zealand conditions, his experience is very valuable to us.  So everything the board has done is thoughtful.  He will stay with the Bangladesh team for 20-22 days,” he added.
