Australia's semi-final fate in this year's T20 World Cup depended on Bangladesh. Ajira would have gone to the last four if the Tigers had won against Afghanistan. Before the match, Cricket Australia wrote 'Come on Bangladesh' and posted it on Facebook.
Marsh-Cummins was watching the Bangladesh-Afghanistan match with the whole team. But Marsh was disappointed as Bangladesh lost in the end despite raising hopes.
The Tiger bowlers had a good start with the ball against the Afghans. Bangladesh restricted Rashid Khan to 115 runs in their craft. Nazmul Hossain Shanto had to chase the target of 116 runs given by Afghanistan in 12.1 overs to go to the semis.
That is far from it, in the end, Team Tigers could not win the match. Afghanistan confirmed semi-final with 8 runs win in rain. Bangladesh's loss confirmed Australia's exit.
In an interview given on the Cricket Australia website, Mitchell Marsh said, "We all watched the game together." It must have been an amazing match, wasn't it? Many times the game has turned. We were all disappointed (when Bangladesh's last wicket fell).
"We were desperate to continue in this tournament. But Afghanistan beat us, they beat Bangladesh and deserve to go to the semi-finals.'
"Of course you want to play in this tournament and that was the only way for us (Bangladesh to win)," he added. But it was completely out of our control and solely our responsibility.
