A five-member body was formed to investigate the deaths of five people from electrocution during the Rath Yatra, a Hindu religious festival, at the Seujgari Amtai intersection in Bogura district town on Sunday.

The committee, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner PM Imrul Kayes, was instructed to submit a report within 10 working days, said Bogura Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam.

The committee comprises representatives from the police, power division, fire service, civil defense, and civil surgeon, according to the Deputy Commissioner.

Saiful Islam also said that each family of the deceased has been given Tk 25,000 for cremation expenses and that measures have been taken to provide necessary treatment for the injured.

On Sunday afternoon, five people died and 43 others were injured during the Rath Yatra in the area.

Saihan Waliullah, the Officer-in-Charge of Bogura Sadar Police station, said the Rath Yatra procession began at around 5 pm from Iskcon Temple, and when it reached the Seujgari Amtala intersection, a fire broke out on top of the Rath after it came into contact with a high voltage electric wire.

Five people sitting on top of the Rath were electrocuted, and 43 others were injured.
