Members of the police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) surrounded the Basurhat municipality office in Noakhali's Companiganj upazila on Thursday night following the clash between two factions of the Awami League.
The municipality Mayor, Abdul Quader Mirza, was staying at his office while a large number of law enforcers were also deployed in the municipality area.
Companiganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahidul Haque Rony could not be reached over the mobile phone for his comments over the law enforcers' deployment around the municipality office.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ziaul Haq Meer said he is not aware of the matter.
Meanwhile, police arrested 28 people, including former Upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal, also the Upazila unit Awami League organizing secretary, in connection with the deadly crash on March 9.
The clash erupted at Basurhat Bazar between the supporters of Quader Mirza, the younger brother of Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, and Mizanur Rahman Badal, leaving one dead and 30 others injured.
Police have filed a case in this connection.
The incident took place less than three weeks after journalist Borhan Uddin Muzakkir, 25, was shot dead in another clash between the same groups.
