On the third day of the second phase of lockdown in Shariatpur, shops and businesses in the various hat bazaars have been closed following the government directives. However, a cattle market was operational in the Gosairhat upazila of the district.
The market opened around 8am. Neither the animal vendors nor the buyers maintained proper health guidelines. Most of the buyers and sellers are not wearing masks.
Gosairhat Police Station OC Mollah Soheb Ali said, "I have talked to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer about keeping the cattle market open." He said the market will be opened in compliance with the hygiene rules.
In this regard, Gosairhat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Alamgir Hossain said that he did not get any specific instruction to close the markert.
No animal is coming from far away. Hygiene rules are being followed, he claimed.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Parvez Hasan has been informed about this and he said he is looking into the matter.
