The Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed here today in a befitting manner. District administration took elaborate programmes to observe the day. The programmes included placing of wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting of national flags at half-mast atop of all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings, mourning procession, discussion, special prayer seeking divine blessings of language martyrs, poem recitation and painting competition for the school students.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Latif, Superintendent of Police (SP) Golam Azad Khan, Chairman of Manikganj Zila Parishad Advocate Golam Mohiuddin, Muktijoddha Sangshad, Shaheed Rafique’s family and people from all walks of life placed wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar at Manikganj Govt. High School.
“Bhasha Shaheed Rafique Smriti Parishad” at Rafique Nagar of the district also observed the day with a four day programmes at “Shaheed Rafique Mukto Monch” which included Milad Mahfil, discussion, recitation, staging drama, placing the wreath and cultural function.
MP Momtaj Begum formally inaugurated the programme.
Relief and Social Service Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Sujit Roy Nandi was present on the occasion as the chief guest. A four day “Rafique Mela” was also organised on the occasion at the Rafique Nagar, the village of language martyr Rafique.
