Three people, including an elderly woman, have been killed and nine others injured after a cement-laden truck lost control and ran over a group of pedestrians in Cox's Bazar.
The accident was reported from Dolphin intersection in Kolatoli around 11:30 pm on Saturday night, said Cox's Bazar town police outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Anwar Hossain.
The deceased were identified as Momena Begum, 60, of Kolatoli, and Osman, 45, a lawyer from Baharchhara, and Shahadat Hossain, 45, a resident of Uttara in Dhaka.
The truck had also hit a parked CNG-run autorickshaw.
Momena and Shahadat died on the spot and 10 others were injured, said SI Anwar.
Among the injured, eight were admitted to Cox's Bazar General Hospital and two others -- Osman and Joynal, 35, of Moheshkhali, were sent to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in critical condition.
Cox's Bazar Sadar police station Inspector (Investigation) Bipul Chandra Dey said Osman died early Sunday while undergoing treatment at CMCH.
