We were pleased to meet H.E. Dr. Rumaih Mohammed Al-Rumaih, Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and his delegation this morning at Biniyog Bhaban for a focused discussion on investment cooperation.
On the Bangladesh side, the discussion was led by Ashik Chowdhury, CEO of the PPP Authority & Executive Chairman of BIDA and joined by officials from PPPA, BIDA and BEZA.
The Saudi Minister appreciated Bangladesh’s focus on privatisation and business facilitation, noting that it aligns with Saudi Arabia’s own strategy. He said Saudi Arabia aims to emerge as a global logistics hub and has identified leading companies as national champions across priority sectors. He expressed interest in seeing more opportunities for Saudi companies in Bangladesh, while also assuring support for Bangladeshi companies seeking to do business in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Minister also highlighted the role of Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) at Chattogram Port’s Patenga Container Terminal, noting that more than 98% of its employees in Bangladesh are Bangladeshi. RSGT is also looking at further opportunities to modernise terminal operations in Bangladesh by bringing greater efficiency and technology into the sector.
The Saudi delegation expressed openness to aligning with the Government of Bangladesh on priority projects, while also conveying areas of Saudi interest. Both sides emphasised the importance of seizing the present momentum to work together on mutually beneficial projects.
“Our discussions included areas where there is long-term Saudi interest and strong alignment with Bangladesh’s priorities, especially logistics and supply chain networks ranging from cold storage to ports. Bangladesh is also prioritising investment cooperation in financial services. Beyond this visit, we are already engaging with multiple Saudi companies to help them understand the opportunities available in Bangladesh and facilitate serious investment conversations," said Ashik Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer, PPP Authority .
