RU students give 24-hr time to reopen campus

The students halted the protests at 12pm till Monday after announcing the ultimatum. 

Students of Rajshahi University (RU) have held a sit-in demonstration in front of the university’s vice-chancellor’s office demanding reopening of residential halls and the campus.

The agitated students also issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the university administration on Sunday, threatening to launch a tougher movement if their demands are not met.

The protests began at 11am with a processions that took off from the university’s Central Library area and ended in front of the vice-chancellor’s office.

At the demonstration, students said that the government has ensured automatic promotion for students of all classes, but is yet to take any such decision for university students. 

They also said students have been suffer from session jams as the university has been kept closed due to the pandemic.

Later, the students halted the protests at 12pm till Monday after announcing the 24-hour ultimatum.

Earlier on Saturday, students of Jahangirnagar University unlocked the main gate of a dormitory as the authorities did not take any step to fulfil their 3-point demand, including hall reopening.

Similar protests were also held by students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) demanding reopening of their campus by February 23.
