A court has announced the death sentence to a man in a case filed two years ago for raping his daughter in a rented house in Ambagicha, South Keraniganj, Dhaka.
Dhaka Women and Children Suppression Tribunal-4 Judge Shahriar Kabir announced this verdict on Wednesday.
The convicted was also ordered to pay a fine of Tk1,00,000.
During the pronouncement of the verdict, the convicted in the case was brought to the court from the jail. After that, he was sent to jail with a warrant on execution of the sentence.
Additional Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Naimul Islam Rizvi confirmed this information.
According to the complaint, the accused is the biological father of the victim. The survivor's mother is currently living abroad. For this reason, the accused and the victim live in the same room in a rented house.
The convicted had been raping the survivor since one and a half years ago by showing various threats. The survivor did not tell anyone about the incident out of fear.
On February 22, 2022, the accused raped the girl again in the rented house at around 2:30pm. The victim could not bear the torture of the accused and told the matter to one of his neighbours.
Later, when other family members learned about the matter, the case was filed against the convicted on the charge of rape by the girl as the plaintiff.
On August 30, 2022, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Moniruzzaman Moni of South Keraniganj police station filed a charge sheet against Nur Alam Fakir as the sole accused.
During the trial of the case, the tribunal took the testimony of six people.
