The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases reached 38,755 in Chattogram district while the infection rate continues rising hastily in recent weeks.
Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS that the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 38,755 as 255 more patients were reported after testing 2,133 samples at seven COVID-19 laboratories in the district.
The infection rate is 11.55 percent, the highest infection rate in the last three months, on Friday in the district.
The health expert of Chattogram urged all to strictly follow the health rules and use masks due to the continuous increasing trend of corona infections here.
Among the newly detected patients, 213 are from Chattogram city and 42 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.
Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told BSS that among the total 38,755 coronavirus infected people, 30,745 are the residents of the port city and the rest 8,010 are the inhabitants of different upazilas of the district.
Meanwhile the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 33,722 with recovery of 55 more patients on Thursday at the average recovery rate of 87.02 percent in the district.
A total of 1,106 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
Dr Rabbi said that the number of fatalities remained steady at 383 with no more death was reported from anywhere in the district on Thursday.
Among the reported fatalities, 281 were the residents of the port city and the rest 102 were from different upazilas of the district.
