Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam has warned of case filing against authorities of Bangladesh Railways and Civil Aviation after seeing mosquito larvae at lands of the Ministries.

He expressed his anger while inspecting the mosquito repellent crash programme in ward no 49 under DNCC on Monday.

"Crores of mosquito breeding are found in water bodies of the two government lands which are entering inside the airport. These water bodies should be cleared soon, otherwise case will be filed against them," mayor Atiqul said.

Dhaka North City Corporation launched a zone-based crash programme for mosquito eradication. DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam inaugurated the programme after visiting Sagufta canal area under Pallabi Police Station in the city on March 8.

The mayor said that all cleaning staff of DNCC, equipped with mosquito repellents, took part in this crash programme to eradicate mosquitoes. The integrated mosquito eradication campaign was scheduled to continue for next 10 days.

The campaign is running now in 10 zones under DNCC area. Usually, the city corporation applies mosquito repellent in the morning and evening in 54 wards under those 10 zones.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam told reporters that earlier, there were only 60 mosquito and cleaning workers in each ward, but now the number has increased to 150. He also said a third party organisation would inspect whether the mosquito repellent is working properly and will only report to the mayor.
