A Dhaka court on Sunday sent film actress Semon Hasan Eka to jail after rejecting both remand and bail petitions in two cases filed against her over torturing a domestic staff and possessing narcotics.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order after Hatirjheel police produced her before the court seeking three-day remand in each case.
The investigation officer said Eka stabbed her house help with a sharp weapon and was in possession of drugs. So, she needs to be remanded to find out the cause behind torturing the domestic help at her house.
Her defence lawyers submitted two separate petitions seeking bail along with cancellation of the remand prayers saying that their client was ill.
Claiming herself innocent, Eka told the court that she was ill and she was implicated in the case as part of a conspiracy to harass her.
Upon hearing both sides, the magistrate turned down the defence and remand pleas and sent her to jail.
